Talents and Attributes
All classes in World of Warcraft have three talent trees, and paladin is no exception. Holy, Protection and Retribution are the talent trees you can choose from with the paladin class. With these talent trees you can build your Paladin for the role you want him to play in the Game.
Holy tree and specs
The Holy paladin is a very unique and specific type of healer. Unlike most healing classes paladin is designed to do large amounts of healing per second on a single target or (with Beacon of light two targets). This makes him into the best main tank healing class in game.
The play style for the holy paladin is considerably different from the shaman, druid or priest. As main attributes for a holy paladin we consider:
- Intellect,
- spell power,
- critical rating,
- haste rating and
- mana per five seconds.
Unlike priest or a druid paladin has no use for spirit.
Most commonly used specs for a PvE holy paladin at level 80 are 51/20/0 and 51/5/15 first one being oriented for more raid utility and other one for hps throughput with more mana efficiency.
As for PvP it usually drops down to basic 51/20/0 or 52/19/0 with a few variations. Best and most used major glyphs for holy spec are:
- Glyph of Seal of Wisdom,
- Glyph of Seal of Light,
- Glyph of Holy Shock,
- Glyph of Beacon of Light,
- Glyph of Holy Light,
- Glyph of Turn Evil (PvP only) and

Protection Tree and Spec
As of Wrath of the Lich king Blizzard decided to give a fair share of abilities and utilities to all tanking classes. Protection spec can differ depending of the play style but most of the time it is 5/56/10. The Protection paladin is a strong tank able to main tank any boss in game with strong AoE tanking abilities. This make him the best tank when it comes to keeping agro on several targets at the same time.
Strong Paladin Traits – What makes this class stand out.
Strong threat and good survivability are main traits of paladin tanks. Attributes that are useful for protection paladins are: stamina, strength, and defense rating, dodge, parry, block, block value, expertise and hit to a certain extent. Most common glyphs for this spec are:
- Glyph of Seal of Vengeance,
- Glyph of Divine Plea,
- Glyph of Judgment,
- Glyph of Righteous Defense, and
- Glyph of Consecration.
Retribution Tree
Retribution spec is the DPS spec for the paladin class. Large amount of burst damage that a paladin can deal makes him strong in PvE and PvP. Most common specs for retribution paladin are 5/11/55 (PvE) and 5/10/56 (PvP).
Important attributes for a retribution paladin are:
- strength,
- critical strike rating,
- haste rating, hit rating,
- expertise rating,
- attack power,
- agility,
- stamina and
- armor penetration rating to some extent.
The most commonly used glyphs are:
- Seal of Vengeance,
- Glyph of Seal of Righteousness,
- Glyph of Exorcism,
- Glyph of Avenging Wrath, and
- Glyph of Consecration.
